Making the most of your view with Exact glazing
Upton Grey, Hampshire
25 October 2019
Nestled in the Hampshire countryside is the village of Upton Grey and our client’s beautiful home. Having lived in their home for many years without being able to enjoy the stunning views, our clients decided to build a rear extension so that they could make the most of the ever-changing countryside views from a cosy and comfortable space all year round.
Unobstructed views with Sliding Doors
With such an expansive vista, it was critical that the chosen glazing system incorporated minimal sight-lines to create large unobstructed views. To achieve a maximum glazing to minimum frame ratio, sliding doors were chosen as the glazed door solution for this project. Choosing sliding doors allows you to span larger areas with less frame than bifold doors or French doors. By upgrading to triple glazing, the sliding doors are both more energy efficient and provide superior acoustic properties.
Panoramic Glide S Sliding Doors
The Glide S Sliding Door system features cutting-edge design with a unique gearing system creating effortless opening and closing of panels up to 400kg. With the ability to span up to 6700mm wide, a panoramic glazed wall seamlessly connecting the indoor and outdoor space can be achieved. The Glide S Sliding Door System also offers:
- Exceptional weather protection
- Concealed drainage with low threshold
- Multi-point locking and high security cylinders
- 47mm million (2 pane)
- 28mm threshold track
- versatile track configurations
Built in versatility
Unlike many sliding doors, with the Glide S system you can select the perfect track system to suit your space and how to plan to use your doors:
- Mono track: comprising of one fixed panel and one sliding sash
- Double track: two tracks which allows both panels to slide separately, offering greater flexibility
- Triple track: three tracks, offering the ability to slide all panels separately or one fixed panel and two sliding
- Pocket: this configuration allows the door to slide between a wall or partition
Seamless living with a flush threshold
With our glazing expertise, we worked closely with our client and local builder Steve Davis Developments to ensure the sliding doors ticked all of the boxes to create a light, bright and flexible space. A key requirement was to ensure seamless access from the new living area to the outdoor terrace with a flush threshold, avoiding the need for any kind of step.
Working closely with the builder and client from the design phase ensured that we could add our expertise and knowledge to achieve this vital element of the project. With a flush threshold, the internal and external flooring finishes perfectly meet the face of the sliding door frame, to create a modern flush finish. Our clients also chose matching flooring for the new extension and terrace, further enhancing the connection between the two entertaining areas.
With full details of the construction build up including the planned flooring finishes and having completed an in-depth site survey, our expert team were armed with everything they needed to design, manufacture and install the sliding doors.
The flush threshold was particularly useful for a visiting guest who was in a wheelchair. They were able to have complete independence and move between the terrace and new living space as they wished. Shared Mrs R.
Fantastic light with modern roof glazing
In addition to the two glazed walls, the space was further enhanced by the addition of a Pure Glass Roof Lantern, to flood natural light in from above.
The minimalist design of the Pure Glass Roof Lantern was chosen for this project, to perfectly complement the contemporary feel of the extension and provide a frameless view of the sky above.
We have loved the fantastic summer sun streaming through the lantern and can’t wait to experience the winter weather in the comfort of our new extension. Said Mrs R
Available in either a rectangular or pyramid shape, the Pure Glass Roof Lantern is designed and manufactured in the UK, to your exact requirements. Featuring self-cleaning, solar control glass as standard, the lantern is structurally bonded to provide superior strength and durability.

Residence 7 Collection windows
To complement the modern sliding doors and roof glazing, Residence 7 windows were chosen as the final glazing element for this stunning extension. Combining the aesthetic appeal of a timber window with the benefits of PVCu construction, the Residence Window Collection is available in a choice of 9 standard colours and can also be matched to a specific colour or even dual-colour finish if desired.
Mrs R shared her thoughts on the project:
We would definitely contact Exact for any future glazing. I had an image of what I wanted and was very much guided by Frazer and Silas as the experts. Our builder was happy working with them too and we are delighted with the end result
