Timeless roof glazing for our client’s home in Guildford
20 September 2019
Being a homeowner can be a challenge at times. A never-ending list of jobs to do and just when you think you’ve finished, it’s time to start again. Our clients in Longdown Road, Guildford experienced exactly that when their roof started to leak. As well as replacing the roof, the project also included new roof glazing as the existing timber roof lantern had also started leaking.
Replacement roof glazing
As part of their new roof project, our clients wanted to upgrade their roof glazing, from the existing timber style lantern to a timeless, thermally efficient, durable, low-maintenance option.
Having started the project with a local roofing contractor, we were asked to work on the project as a specialist large-scale roof glazing company. Whilst timber roof glazing is generally chosen to complement traditional builds, the Classic Aluminium Roof Lantern features subtle ogee detailing on the lower edges of the frame profile, which makes it a perfect choice to suit a more traditional property style.

The benefits of aluminium frame glazing
As architectural glazing experts, we pride ourselves on only working with the very best design and materials, to ensure each and every glazing addition to a property improves thermal efficiency, reduces maintenance, is highly durable and of course looks stunning.
For these reasons, we only work with aluminium frames. The key benefits of aluminium framed glazing versus timber-framed are:
- Increased thermal efficiency due to a thermally broken frame
- Superior strength allowing for a higher glass to frame ratio
- Minimal maintenance due to the powder-coated frame
- Increased durability and weatherproofing
As well as the above significant benefits, most people are usually very surprised to find out that aluminium is also a more cost-effective solution than timber.
A new Classic Aluminium Roof Lantern
Our Aluminium Roof Lantern is available in two designs; Classic or Contemporary. An elegant addition in either style, the Contemporary style lantern features 4 panes of glass, creating a minimal style of roof glazing.
The minimal, modern styling of the Contemporary Aluminium Roof Lantern
The Classic style lantern chosen for this project, features more individual panes of glass and aluminium rafter bars, making it possible to span up to 6000mm x 4000mm. With a 57mm frame profile, the lantern still boasts an impressive glass to frame ratio, providing breath-taking views and flooding light into the space below.
With 12 panes of Active Neutral, Self-Cleaning, Double-Glazed glass, this beautiful lantern spans 4815mm x 1890mm, creating a centrepiece for the relaxed dining and lounge area below. The roof lantern perfectly complements the multiple sets of French doors to create a bright, airy and light space, which blends effortlessly with the outdoor entertaining terrace.
Mr Jantzen was happy to share his thoughts on our work and the new roof lantern:
The Exact team were on time, clean, tidy and very polite. Most importantly though, 2 years on and our roof lantern still looks like new and we have not had a single issue.
