Stunning transformation of Edwardian home
Petersfield, Hampshire
27 February 2020
We first met the owners of this amazing home in 2017 at the Sandown Homebuilding & Renovation Show, as they embarked on the renovation of their Edwardian home, nestled on a Hampshire heath.
Finding the dream home
Our clients in Hampshire had set their sights on a very specific area for their dream home, in fact their brief was just one road and one of half a dozen homes! Following an impromptu conversation with an estate agent, they found the exact house and knew as soon as they walked in that this was the one that they would redesign, extend and renovate to create their dream home.
With a joint love of architecture and some previous renovation experience, our clients set to work on the extensive research, planning and design of their labour of love.
The importance of supplier recommendations
When you’re going to be investing time and money into a project of this scale, you want to make sure the suppliers you choose to work with are going to be right for you and do a great job. A recommendation from a trusted friend or someone with experience in the industry is invaluable. Our clients chose to work with Back To Front Exterior Design as their architect. Working together closely on the plans, they were able to define exactly how the house would work best as a family home, introduce original features back into the home and combine that with their own ideas and inspiration gathered from Pinterest, interiors magazines and blogs.
We were also thrilled to have been recommended to our clients based on prior projects. Our end-to-end approach and expertise mean you have a dedicated and reliable team throughout your project from enquiry through to survey, installation and aftercare.
Extensive building work
Due to the extensive and ambitious plans for the house, our clients moved out for a year whilst the building work was completed – which included removing the roof and the back of the house. This certainly wasn’t a project for the faint hearted!
When it came to the roof glazing, there were various elements to consider. Firstly, the addition of the large extension to the back of the house needed a suitably inspiring roof glazing feature. Having met our client and seen the large scale plans we were thrilled to be involved – and not at all daunted as some other glazing companies can be when it comes to large scale roof glazing! In fact, we love nothing more than solving a glazing conundrum that is apparently ‘impossible’.
Aluminium Roof Lantern for rear extension
At nearly 5000mm long, the Aluminium Roof Lantern was chosen as the roof glazing solution for the rear extension. The addition of 2 ball finials to the design added a more traditional look to the lantern, fitting in with the authentic and sympathetic renovation work across the house.
In addition to the beautiful Aluminium Roof Lantern, the plans for our client’s dream home included 6 further roof lights. The crowning glory of the house is a 2000mm x 2000mm Pure Glass Pyramid Lantern positioned on the roof to flood the stairwell and hallway with natural light.
The Pure Glass Pyramid is a contemporary, frameless roof glazing option. Each pyramid is designed and made to your exact needs and measurements in the UK using the highest quality materials. If your plans call for a larger pure glass lantern, the Rectangular Pure Glass Lantern is available up to 3000mm x 1500mm.
To allow easy access out onto the roof, a 1000mm x 1000mm Pure Glass Opening Roof Light was added - a great solution for access, flexible ventilation and maintenance.

Flat Roof Light
The Pure Glass Flat Roof Light is a thing of beauty. With its sleek minimalist design, you can achieve edge-to-edge glazing and is the perfect complement to the internal and external design of any home. Our clients chose 4 single pane roof lights for their home to provide uninterrupted views of the sky throughout the ground floor of their home.
In addition to the single pane style, we can design your flat roof light with modular panes if you are looking to achieve a greater span, or you can choose from glass lintels or aluminium beams to further enhance the design aesthetic of your roof glazing.

One very happy client
Our client shared her thoughts on the project:
Working with Exact on our home renovation was great. As a family run business, we felt they were very committed, knowledgeable and liked the team as soon as we met. We’d definitely recommend them as they made us feel very confident and we knew they had everything under control. On site, the team were tidy and considerate – not easy when you have a giant crane to contend with!
They say a picture paints a thousand words and the photographs certainly show just how beautiful our clients have made their home. For a bird’s eye view and to really see the roof glazing in all its glory, watch our video.
