Introducing the Pure Glass Ridge Light
New Malden, London
27 April 2020
Our clients in New Malden were researching and planning their rear extension when we met at the Farnborough Homebuilding & Renovating Show. Having done a prior home renovation several years before, they knew the work involved and were doing their homework to make sure they got the very best glazing and expertise for this project.
The extension to create new kitchen, dining and lounge areas is an L shape and features both a pitched roof and a flat roof. Rather than choosing Flat Roof Lights installed either side of the apex, in discussion with the architect the idea to incorporate a ridge light was introduced instead.
Project Manager Silas shared his thoughts on the project:
There were many technical details on this project that we had to make sure were measured carefully – a flush threshold for the sliding door, the pitch of the ridge light, the angles for the shaped window, and making sure there was a neat finish for the windows which have an exposed brick surround. Attention to detail at the point of survey pays dividends later; on installation day, everything slotted in perfectly!
What is a ridge light?
A ridge light is a fixed glazed installation, which is installed into the apex of the pitched roof providing glazing on both returns and sitting within the original roof line. The ridge light for this project is 2500mm x 1500m and sits above the new lounge area creating a unique architectural feature and focal point for the room as well as allowing natural light to flood the space.

Glazing a ridge light
An important part of every glazing project is the glass specification. With years of experience across a wide variety of projects, our Project Managers will work closely with you and your team to advise on the glazing specification to achieve optimal thermal, security and safety performance. If cleaning your roof glazing is a concern or making you think twice about including it in your plans, find out more about self-cleaning glass.
Rear extension glazing
In addition to the ridge light, our clients also chose a rectangular Pure Glass Roof Lantern as the glazing solution for the flat roof part of the extension which incorporates the kitchen and dining areas. The minimalist design and exceptional engineering of the Pure Glass range means your roof glazing can be a frameless addition, which is equally at home in traditional and contemporary properties.
In keeping with the contemporary design of the roof glazing, our clients chose 2 sets of Glide S Sliding Doors, 5 fixed pane aluminium windows and a stunning shaped aluminium window above the sliding doors within the lounge.

Our client in New Malden shared his thoughts:
I would recommend Exact. They were engaging and communicated well, helping me to make the best decisions for my home. For anyone thinking about a home renovation, my advice is to start planning and researching early. The more time you spend on that part of the project, the more time and money you can save by working with the right suppliers, finding the right products and avoiding issues later on.
