Combining glazing systems in Petworth extension
Petworth, West Sussex
5 August 2021
Our recent project in Petworth is a great example of how a project will need more than one glazing system and often, a combination of glazing styles. Nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex, our clients extended their home to create a new free-flowing kitchen, dining, and lounge to make the most of the beautiful views
Combining glazed door styles
During an Initial Project Consultation, we will spend time with the project team to understand the requirements and vision, so that we can add our expertise and propose the best styles and systems to achieve the project.
Many of our projects feature multiple glazed door styles throughout the home to fit with the access, usage, and internal and external areas available. By working with one specialist glazing supplier to specify the whole glazing package, every piece of glazing will seamlessly blend to create an overall architectural glazing style.
In Petworth, 4090mm x 2065mm bifold doors span the width of the rear extension and are combined with a set of 1800mm x 2065mm French doors with a matching profile, on the side return. The combination of bifold and French doors in the extension allows the whole rear glazed wall to be opened for uninterrupted access, while the French doors can be used to provide quick and easy access when opening the bifold isn’t needed.
The bifolds featured in this project are Type 24 – four-pane bifolding with a traffic door. To find out more about bifold door configurations, read our recent article.

Contemporary roof glazing
In keeping with the contemporary vision, to create a focal point for the new dining area and maximise the natural light, an Aluminium Roof Lantern was specified. The low-pitch lantern is available in a contemporary or classic design.
- The contemporary design features four panes of glass, whilst the classic lantern features more individual panes of glass combined with aluminium bars to give a timeless finish and achieve a larger span.
Our range of roof glazing also includes the Pure Glass Lantern, Pure Glass Flat Roof Light and Pure Glass Bespoke. When planning your roof glazing it is vital to ensure the glass specification is meticulously planned to ensure the safety, security, and durability of the installation. To complete the glazing package, two 885mm x 1153mm Aluminium Windows are featured opposite the French doors, bringing more light and lush green views into the home.
All the glazing systems feature Anthracite Grey frames, which is a popular choice to create a softer, subtle finish around the home.
